We had the Chris Cunningham group out so we decided to see if we could find some bird play first up the beach. Not much going on so we went to the rips and tallied 5 bass and 3 big blues for the trip. Its always a pleasure to fish with Chris and his guys!
11-18 PM
We had the Ed Schwentech charter out and we found the bass biting right where we left them. The group landed about a dozen bass, keeping three up to 37". Thanks for fishing with us and look forward to fishing with you again.

Tuesday we had Fran and his private charter from Upper Darby out to the rips. We got a good bite going and landed 20 bass, keeping 4 up to 35".

This is what we've been waiting for!!! We had an open boat crew out and started off with 3 fish on the first drift, boxing 2. After the tide change, we were catching fish every drift but most were shorts so we decided to take a chance and look for some bigger fish. It payed off with 6 more keepers between 20 and 25lbs. We totalled 25 fish for the trip.

PM
We had Steve and his private charter out with much better conditions as the wind the wind dropped to less than 15 knots. We hit some rips and were able to box 3 fish up to 25lbs.

Capt. Sr and myself headed out in the morning to find nothing but dirty water. We worked at it and managed one 34"er and missed about four more. Later on the water clear up some and we put three more in the box between 20 and 28 lbs. It seems like some nicer fish are starting to show in the rips.

10-27
Friday we had Jerry Rau out with us to the rips to see if we could find some bass. We fished real hard and came away with four bass and missed about the same. There were fish stacked up on just about every rip and its just a matter of days before things jump into high gear.

Did our first trip today with Eugene and Joe. We went up the bay with some fresh bunker and set up just as the tide went slack. We had a decent bite going for the first hour and a half or so and then it died. Finally tally was 2 shorts, 1-36", 1-38", and 1-44" that weighed in at 32lbs.

Tuesday myself, Capt. Sr, Butch Muff and Capt Skip from the Stalker left at 8am and had baits in by noon. We trolled until dark with no bites and set up on the chunk. 20 minutes into the slick we land our first tuna and it was nonstop from there. We ended the night with 21 yellowfin and about 8 brown sharks. The tuna were 35-75 lbs. There is some great action out there right now with fish piled up!

9-8/9-9
Friday we had the Johnson Control party with Dave, Butch,Dave, and Bill out for an overnighter. We put the baits in the water around 3:30 and trolled around to see what we could find. We found an area in the deep that had as much life as you could ask for in a small filament of good blue water. We had three whites up tailing in this area but couldn't get them to eat. We set up for the night and around 9:30 the deep tuna line went off. I set up on the fish and handed it to Dave, definitely not a tuna. Within 5 minutes, Dave had the fish to the top and we got a look at a 150lb class sword! The fish saw the boat and dumped 200 yards of line before parting the line. The fish probably hit the line enough times with its tail to fray it. Now comes the funny part, we had a sword line and a shark line out that became tangled due to the weird drift with no wind. I took the skippy fillet off the shark rig and threw it over and put that rod away. We reset the sword rod down 220 feet and within 10 minutes it went off and Butch came tight. 30 minutes later the 115lb sword came up dead and over the rail. I immediately gutted the fish and what do I find in the stomach? THE SKIPPY FILLET!!! Weird, huh? Well, that was it, no more hits and we ran home in flat seas.

We had an open boat crew out Sunday night consisting of Chris, Evans, Gary, Mark, and Gary in the wake of Ernesto. We didn't have any good sat shots to go by, so we winged it. We had the baits in around 4pm at the 100 line and headed toward the deep, as we crossed the 500 line, Chris hooked up with a nice 25lb dolphin that made its way into the box. Out to the 1000 line and down toward the next canyon, we had a good run off that came unbutton when the drag was knocked into freespool accidentally and backlashed. Then immediately after putting the boat back up to speed, Evans landed a 65lb yellowfin just before dark. We set up on the chunk in 700 fathoms and went 1 or 3 at night with Mark landing a 70lb bigeye. Up on the troll in the morning, Gary landed a 10lb dolphin and then Gary and Chris taggteamed a 110lb yellowfin. We had one more good run off just before pulling the baits in that came unbuttoned. We didn't have alot of fish, but the fish we had were good quality fish and we had a blast with a great crew. Thanks for fishing with us and we look forward to fishing with you again in the future.

Sunday we had a split charter with Ed and Cindy Collete of the Capt. Collete. The Fred Haug charter wanted an inshore troll trip so off we went. Both boats made it off 10 miles for a short while and both were immediately in the fish. Ed had two bonita and a dolphin and we had two bonita and two dolphin in the first hour and then the crew wanted to finish the day in the bay. Seas were snotty with 5 to 7 footers with an occasional 8 thrown in. Even with the wind and the rain the crews still had a great time and we look forward to fishing with them again.

8-25
Satuday we had a great group from South Jersey Anthotesia out for a bluefish/inshore troll trip. We 3 to 5 footers out of the East the crew did last long before we were headed back to the bay. The group still had a blast with a few keeper flounder, a bunch of shorts and alot of other fish pulling on the other end of the line. Thanks for fishing with us and look forward to fishing with you in the future.

8-19/8-20
We had a great group of guys out Saturday night for our first overnighter of the year. Reports and sat shots from offshore weren't the best so we decided to lay up on the 30 line. We had some troll time and put 2 yellowfin in the boat, 38 and 25lbs. We set up on the hook, but with wind against the tide situation, we immediately pulled the hook and began to drift. The night was realitively uneventful with a couple of dolphin and about 10 or 12 shark bite offs. We did not have a chance to troll in the morning with the wind coming up around 11pm to 25 knots and the seas building all night. By daylight, we had 6 to 8 ft. seas, so we decided to bag it and head for home. Thanks for fishing hard guys and we'll get em next time.

8-13
Today we had the Art Barstow private charter out to the edge for a day troll. Chatter on the radio was fairly constant with less than stellar reports and dirty green water everywhere. We stuck it out in the same area all day going 3 for 8 on tuna in the 40 to 50 lb range.
Capt. Tom

8-5
Today we had the Matt Moore private charter out for an inshore troll. We could have sunk the boat with small blues but it was decided to push on and try for something bigger. We were able to connect with one nice king mackeral, but that was it other than blues. Things seemed slow all over with 80 degree water. Thanks for fishing with us guys and looking forward to striper season.

7-29
Today we had the Dave Fabian charter out to the edge for some trolling. We went right back to where we left the fish and they were still there. We went 3 for about 8 or 9 on a couple of passes before some other boats showed up and put the fish down. We tallied 1 longfin 45lbs and 2 yellowfin 35 and 50 lbs. And we added a small dolphin. Thanks for fishing hard guys.

Today we had Audrey, Jerry, Mike, and Max out for a day troll to the edge. Seas were glassy flat and we had our first yellowfin on before all the lines were set. We had a steady pick all morning of 20-30lb fish and in the middle of the day Mike connected with a nice 40lb yellowfin. Another pass over the number produced a huge hit that came tight and Jerry was on it. After a 45 minute battle we sunk the gaff into a 135lb bigeye! One more pass over the spot and another big hit. This time its Max's turn and 30 minutes later we had a 125lb bigeye ready for the fish box! We added a couple more yellowfin and wrapped and headed for home. The tally was 12 yellowfin and 2 bigeye. Awesome day!

7-15
Today we had the Chris Cunningham charter out to the edge for some trolling. It seemed that conditions were tough all around with meek reports. We worked up and down the line hard winding up going 0 for 2 on tuna and 1 for 2 on whites. With the tropical storm coming up the coast, the water should mix and cool off and the trolling should take off!
Capt. Tom

7-11
Today we had Joe and Butch out for a private charter and again it didn't take long to get into the yellowfin. We picked away at them all morning and by 11am we had 12 fish in the box and released another two. We decided to head off and look for a bigeye or some longfin but they weren't there. We made one pass over our numbers before heading home and released two more yellowfin. We also raised two whites and had one of them hooked up for bit before throwing the hook. We ended the day with 16 tuna to our credit with most of the fish between 20 and 30lbs with one 45lber and a 90lber. Thanks for fishing with us and look forward to fishing with you in the future.

7-8
Today we had Ryan, Joe, and Pat out for a day of trolling at the edge. The day started off great as we hooked up with the first yellowfin of the day before all the lines were in the water. We stayed on the same numbers and by 7:30 we had 7 yellowfin to 55lbs in the box. We went off the deep looking for some more and found bait and some stray birds. Working the area we had six rods go down at once! The three anglers did a great job and we were able to land 6 longfin 40-45lbs. We beat the area for awhile and then moved back to the edge and at the end of the day the short rigger went down, Ryan set the hook and battle was on! After 20 minutes we sunk the gaff into a 120+lb. bigeye! We had a great time and ended the day with 14 tuna to our credit.

Monday we had Sean Cook and Dwayne McPherron out to the edge for a day troll. The morning started slow with one 25lb. yellowfin. Working around the edge we finally started to mark good bait and started to pick at the yellowfin for the rest of the day. We finished with six yellowfin to 70lb. and two dolphin around 15lbs or so. We also missed at least another six fish that just missed or pull the hook and raised a white.

Saturday myself, Capt. Sr., and John Deveccio headed out to due some sharking for a late season mako. We marked some good bait and set the slick. We only had two runoffs all day but the second finally came tight and we landed a 115lb mako. Suprisingly no bluefish.
Capt. Tom

6-25
Today we had an open boat crew of Mike Glenn and wife Susan. We started out at the 30 line looking for some bluefin which only produced two short hits and no hook ups. We worked out as far as the 800 line of the Spencer then back to the tip. Once we came across the tip we had three hits, one missing the bait completely and two hook ups. One came unbuttoned in the middle of the fight and we landed the other, a 20lb. yellowfin. We made several more passes over the numbers but could not raise anymore fish. Thanks for fishing hard Mike and Susan. We'll mug em next time!

Saturday we had a great crew consisting of Nick, Ron, Chris, Jason, Mike, and Chris. We left the dock around 1AM and had the line in around 5:30 at the 500 line of the Lindy. We worked our way out past the 1000 line and the first two fish that came into the spread were both whites but I couldn't connect on either one. We pushed our way farther and started to pick at the yellowfin all morning. When we finally turn back we were at the 1600 line. We worked our way back towards the 1000 line and around noon we really got into em! 3,4 and 5 on at time. On one hook up, we had 4 on and all the sudden on reel started to really scream in the middle of the fight. I turn around to see a 800lb. class mako due a complete back flip with a 25lb. tuna in his mouth! The fish didn't get the hook in him, but we kept on teasing him by cranking real fast and skipping the tuna head across the water and you could see the mako barreling down after the head. He must have grabbed the bait six different times but we could only give him a very short count because of the mono leader. He finally lost intersest and swam off. But what a thrill!
We ended the day with 20 yellowfin up to 35lbs, 1 dolphin at 15lbs, 0 for 2 on whites, and the encounter with the mako. Most of the fish were between 1300 and 1500 fathoms outside the Lindy.
Thanks for fishing with us guys! We had a great time and look forward to fishing with you in the future.

We had a great group out Saturday evening consisting or Allison, Cheryl, Tom, and Robin. We were looking to do some striper fishing and then head up the bay for some drum. But with the wind and tide situation, and lack of good reports, we decided it would be best to stay in the rips and tough it out. We left the dock at 4PM and fished until after 10PM with just one bass to show for it. The bluefish were really tearing up the live bait and the artificals. Thanks for fishing hard everyone.

Capt. Sr. and myself took a scouting trip this afternoon to see if there were any bass around. On the first pass Capt. Sr. hooked up with a big fish. After a great fight she hit the deck, 51"s and 52#'s! Great fish! We stayed on it a little longer pulling the hook on another real good fish.

Tuesday morning we had the Jim Trainor private charter with son Brady and Uncle Bob. We started off in the same spot looking for drum with only sharks and skates. Decided to change things up a little and headed to Site 6 looking for some tog but the tide was rippin and only wound up with one throw back tog, one keeper flounder and a short striper. Headed up the bay to see if we could chunk up a bass and along the way ran into some great marks. I immediately thought DRUM! In goes the clams and a couple of bunker just in case. Sharks, rays, and skates was what we had. Though, 7 year old Brady had a blast with the sharks and rays up to 50lbs. He did a great job subduing all those fish! Just as the tide was coming to an end, finally Jim hooked up with a small drum.
Capt. Tom
|
5-28
Sunday evening we had Ray, Lou, Adam, and Dee out again looking for some big drum. We went back to the same spot and we were greeted with a birage of cow nosed rays! So after 4 or 5 rays in a row, three rods went off, one ray, two ray, "ok, pull the lines up, we're outta here!" Third, DRUMFISH! "Lines back in!" We picked at the drum all evening, ending up with 7 drum to 70lbs. and three drum cherries popped!
Capt. Tom

5-27
Saturday we started off with Rich, Dave, Rich, Gary, Tony, and Darleen on an open boat trip. We set up in one of favorite drum spots right at slack tide. As soon as the tide started to run we got into the fish. We landed 5 in about an hour and half and then the bite slowed. We did pick one more fish with the hard current and Tony hooked into a monster only to pull the hook on the intial run but not before dumping at least 100 yards off the reel. All the fish were between 40 and 60lbs.
Capt. Tom
|
Left the dock at 4PM with Capt. Sr., Jerry Bradley, and George Politis. We arrived at spot #1 to find real good marks but only trash fish were biting. Made a move of a couple miles and within 15 minutes we had our first hook up. We had bent rods till the tide ended and when the dust settled we had gone 10 for 12 on drum from 45-70lbs! Lots of multiple hook ups with doubles, triples and even a quad!
Capt. Tom

5-20
We had Allison and Sheryl out for their charter Saturday night up the bay for some drum fishing. We set up in 21' of water with nothing but junk for the first couple of hours. So we made a small move and immediately got into fish and landing 9 drum to 62lbs. The bite was real good for about an hour and a half with 3 doubles headers and the majority of the fish in the 50lb. range.
Capt. Tom

5-13
Saturday morning we had the Chris Cunningham charter out for a drum/stripe combo trip. We started out up the bay and within 10 minutes we had the first drum in the boat, not a monster but Dave's first. Then the skates and doggies started in us, so on to the bass. On our first pass, who else but Dave again, hooks up with nice fish and about 10 minutes later lands his first bass, a 50" 43lb'er!!! What a first bass! The tide went slack so we waited it out and fished a little of outgoing and Chris connected with a 43" 28lb'er. We had a few other hits but couldn't connect. But at least the two we wound up with were quality fish.

This morning myself and Capt. Sr arrived at the drum grounds early and spent the fall tide chunking clams. We boated 3 drum to 25#'s and missed a few others. The drum bite should really start to take off with this weekend's upcoming full moon.

April 15
Very tough fishing today! On our morning trip we had Jim Trainer and his family on board for some rips fishing. The crew stuck it out and we landed two 31" bass. Including 7 year old Grady's first striper.
In the afternoon we had Joe and his 8 year old son Tyler out on the bay. 5 minutes after lines in Tyler land his first drum, an 18#'er. And our first for the season. We landed 3 bass from 31-34" with alot of pick ups. The fish were giving us a run-off, lock it up, and drop the bait.
Thanks to both crews for fishing hard. We'll mug em next time.
